Carcross YT to Skagway, Alaska, 66 Miles, June 9, 2010

001

Here is Bob washing the Explorer at 9:56 pm last night.  We are almost in the land of the midnight sun.  After our drive down to Skagway today, you can not tell he washed it.

Before leaving this morning we visited Carcross.  Very small community, has a visitor center, general store, church, and post office.

Crows must like to perch on church steeples.

Since we had driven the Explorer to Skagway yesterday, we knew there were several stretches of gravel road, so thought we better install our handmade rock guard.  Our friends Chuck and Lorraine gave us theirs, they had used it 012on their 2009 Alaska trip.  I do believe Mark and Sue made several of these for their Alaska traveling group last year.  Thanks guys, it worked well and was easy to install.

024 I do believe this drive to Skagway wins hands down as my favorite drive, so far, on this trip.  The views are endless.

After arriving in Skagway Bob was into exercising, he did one curl.  We won’t about what I did.  I was too slow in getting this next expression-it was priceless!

Skagway is four blocks wide and 23 blocks long, so we decided to walk over to the Airport terminal and purchase our tickets to fly to Juneau tomorrow.  No problem, our flight takes off at 11:30 am for a 35 minute flight.  Also stopped on the way back at the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry and purchased our return tickets for Saturday, leaves Juneau at 3 pm arrives Skagway 9:30 pm.  Below is a plane taking off from their airport.  That is us tomorrow!!

040Following our walk and a nap, we enjoyed  mojietos at a charming bistro, definitely reminded us of Europe.

Our home for the next week, if you believe the saying ”Home is where you park it”!
