Nenana to North Pole, 61 miles, Aug 21, 2010

We drove north  along the Parks Hwy toward Fairbanks, stopped at an overlook and saw a fire smoking in the distance.

I found this on the net about the fire, “The Willow Creek fire near Fairbanks, Alaska is still burning.  Lightning started this fire on June 10, 2010 in an uninhabited area 10 miles from the outskirts of Fairbanks. State and federal fire fighters have been attempting to control the fire by air primarily to prevent it from crossing to the north side of the Tanana River (where Fairbanks is). Taken from the George Parks monument overlook.”

IMG_2816 Here we are at our home for the next week, staying in the North Pole at Riverview RV Park, for $250  ($35.71/night)  for the week.  The lady at the office said that after the first week of August all of the RV’s just disappeared.  The park is about 15% full.

I still have the foil over my window in the bedroom, but am considering taking it off.  It stays light till about 10 pm now, but then quickly gets dark.  Since it is getting darker at night we are hoping to see the aurora borealis (northern lights), some evening.

Actually have NOT had any rain the last two days, now that is a first for a long time!

We stayed at that same RV park. I love the flowers next to the laundry room.

I've been following along with this fire as I have a friend in North Pole. A few weeks ago it was in the mid to high 80s and the fire was really bad. They said you couldn't see because of the smoke. We were fortunate when we were there because it had been wet and we didn't see any smoke.
