Today was the first of two days of the Big Sky Draft Horse Expo here in Deer Lodge, MT. Since the weather forecast is to be 20 degrees cooler tomorrow, we decided today was the day to go. The fairgrounds were about a mile from the RV park so we walked over and found nice covered grandstand seats.
We saw the Feed Team Race which required the teamster and team to load and unload hay.
Antique/Unique Vehicle competition The oil tank below won this competition.
Probably the most exciting were these Friesian horses pulling a chariot.
Here they were running FAST like they would have at Circus Maximus!
Our favorite event to watch was the six horse/mule driving competition. One part of this competition was called ‘Docking’, they had to first pull parallel to a simulated loading dock, then back up to it as if to unload freight.
Another fun day!!
