Tuna and a Rocky Walk, Jan 11, 2009

Check out this nifty strainer or colander, it was a gift from our daughter Jenny and family. The best part it just folds flat and stores easily next to our baking sheets. Yes, those strawberries and blueberries are delicious, we picked those up at the Sams last Friday.

Here Bob is cutting up some frozen grilled tuna we bought last Oct. while we were in Winchester Bay, OR. The tuna made a wonderful addition to our low cal salad. Bob does love to cook and I am sure enjoy the fact I don't have to.

In trying to take at least a two mile walk each day, off we went about 4:30. The wind had died down some and the plan was just to walk in the desert along a trail 1 mile out and then turn around and 1 mile back. Well, Bob had other ideas as we had been walking along over this canyon or arroyo. At the 1 mile out marker (I used a pedometer) we saw a way to get down into this canyon without any bodily injury...so off we went. Some areas were wide and some were narrow, some sandy and some rocky.

Here I am skiing down a large hill of small rocks. One can only imagine the force of the water as it rages down this arroyo--wouldn't want to be here during the rainy season or a flash flood.

Since we both had sandals on the rocks and sand became an issue--I know I stopped numerous times to dump mine out and Bob did too. Here I am dumping out just a 'few' rocks, notice on the ground my other shoe's rocks.

This was a wide place in the arroyo, this view almost takes your breath away.

Slave, Shopping & The Moon, Jan. 10, 2009

A couple of years ago, I made Bob a beaded bracelet that says, Linda's Slave. Since he likes to wear it all the time-his choice, some of the threads were getting very thin. It was time for repairs, it wasn't easy as I had repaired it several times before. Soon it was done and Bob is now sporting his newly repaired slave bracelet.

OK, what looks funny about this keyboard, it bends, it is made from silicone. It is taking me some adjusting to get used to it. I sure do a lot of backspacing to add missing letters or spaces. Hopefully I will be a quick learner.

Jenny had gotten her Dad a CB radio for Christmas. Doesn't it look nice, the microphone goes up in the clip. The coach came prewired for a CB, but you would not believe the tangle of wires up under the dash. After searching for quite a time, and then taking off part of the trim around the window and windshield we found the antenna wire, traced it down to the tangle and then found the radio connector. It is installed and has static, but don't know if it works yet. I am sure it will.

Time for Christmas to be put away, yes it all fits into this shoe box.

Shopping day!!! It has been 11 days since I had spent money! We drove the 20 plus miles into Yuma to get our General Delivery mail, shop the book store for books about Spain, France and Germany, groceries at Walmart, and also found an Albertsons which had Owens Sausage. Owens sausage is made by Bob Evans our favorite sausage when we lived in Ohio. Since we are west of the Mississippi River this is the brand we can find. It was on sale for $3.99, plus the three rolls I picked out each had a $2 off coupon.

Here we are home will all out stuff and TP.

Light Extinguished at Umpqua River Light House, Jan 6, 2009

We just received the confirmation that the Umpqua River Lighthouse's light was turned off by the Coast Guard on December 31, 2008. Ironically it was first lit on December 31, 1896, 112 years ago. Bob and I have volunteered here for the last three years in September and October and loved it! We had heard in mid December from the Caretaker, our boss, Gaylyn Bradley, that this was going to happen. This lighthouse's tours and gift shop were operated by Douglas County while the Coast Guard maintained the fresnel lens and light, also understand there are other changes happening at the Lighthouse. What a shame...as it was the crown jewel of the Oregon Coast.
